Art Basel

From June 13 to June 16 2013 – Halls 1 and 2 of Messe Basel at Messeplatz.
Art Basel has been described as the ‘Olympics of the Art World’. Over 300 leading galleries from North America, Latin America, Europe, Asia, and Africa show the work of more than 4,000 artists, ranging from the great masters of Modern art to the latest generation of emerging stars.

The show’s individual sectors represent every artistic medium: paintings, sculpture, installations, videos, multiples, prints, photography, and performance. Each day offers a full program of events, including symposiums, films, and artist talks. Further afield, exhibitions and events are offered by cultural institutions in Basel and the surrounding area, creating an exciting, region-wide art week.

Verge is the fastest rising art fair enterprise in America. In only one year, it has established itself among fairs decades more established, with editions in Miami Beach during Art Basel and in New York during Armory Show. Founded by writer Michael Workman and artist Edouard Steinhauer under the umbrella of Workman/Steinhauer Productions, Verge chose to focus on emerging art as the cutting-edge in a market blindly obsessed with blue chip, a hangover from a boom times disinterest in innovation. Verge has seized this market niche to lead the way, introducing galleries and artists who have gone on to fill out the ranks of more established fairs such as SCOPE, Pulse and Volta. Verge artists are coveted and collected by important museums and top collectors, including the (in)famous Charles Saatchi.
